It was just wishful thinking, and after years, it’s reality.

Back in 2019, I remember going to the Images Camera Club of Cebu exhibit to check out the photos of Ralph and Kirby. I then met someone I’ve admired from childhood , kuya Rolando Pascua who I conversed with since I loved his giraffe photo and he invited me to join the club. I didn’t think that I’d meet more of the people I admired and whose photographs I’d frequently check on, who eventually became my friends, my ahias - Erwin Lim, Christopher Colinares, Dan Ong, Kinwing Lou, Carlito So, uncle Ted Madamba and so much more. I then met someone who became so close to me now, someone I admire too - chi Jan Tadoyo (our incoming president and last years POTY). She was always there and kept pushing me to take photos - she believed in me, when I didn’t believe in myself.
Through the years , I just kept shooting and submitting. Everytime we’d have internal contests, I didn’t expect to top since like I always say “Hope is poison”, and who was I compared to veterans? But I kept shooting and luckily through the years, I was able to hit the side targets. But joining the contests wasn’t about winning for me, it was learning new perspectives, and seeing what my mentors, idols, clubmates would take. Joining competitions made me learn and grow, but I guess God had other plans and gave me something even better.
I never expected to get this award honestly. All I did was work hard and tried my best to shoot and deliver. But I guess, hard work, perseverance and passion does pay off in the end, and after 6 years in the club, I can’t believe I finally did it.
To the people that was with me throughout, thank you. Thank you God, my Family, my dad Edgar Edgar Mary who bought me my first Kodak, my mom Jennifer Helen who bought me my first set of canon and lumix, my bro kuya AP, Jennifer Elaine, my twin sister who always is there to support me, Ralph who assists me a lot, Kirby who’s born with such an artistic talent, an accolade for creativity as well and at the same time one of my biggest competitions, he won 2nd, my son Top, you are my inspiration. Those who I looked up and eventually became friends, those who I admire, chi Joyce who was always pushing me together with chi Jan Tadoyo and guided me, ate Kat who’s thousands of miles away but always support me, my Images family, my Sarmiento team who helps me out whenever, my other friends.
